Guide to Auragan Technologies

A tech guide to Auragan’s appliances and software for streaming media and DRM

Advection.NET is the services branch of Auragan, LLC, a Microsoft certified developer of streaming media appliances and software. Auragan’s appliances and software plug into existing media delivery networks to boost streaming performance and add paid-media capabilities, without needing more servers or software development.

We’ve grouped our products by where they fit as building blocks of the digital media value chain: creation, publishing, distribution, consumption, and process management.

Software for Selling & Delivering to End Users

Web sites work best when designed like print and paper such as magazines or newspapers. Online audio and video works better when presented like TV or cable, looking like cable channel guides, TiVo™-style set top box interfaces, or even DVD menus.

We'll help put your media in your customer's living room

Auragan has developed a suite of storefronts that work with the most common end user platforms: web browsers, Windows Media Center Edition computers, media players, and even portable devices or mobile phones.

Software for Content Owners & Producers

Creating content is easier than it used to be, thanks to software like Windows Media Encoder, Cleaner XL, Canopus ProCoder. Unfortunately, these products are not designed for extremely high volumes or made to feed directly into a streaming distribution network. Auragan’s transcoding appliance fits this need. Our standalone encoding software helps you produce hi-definition video using the latest MPEG4 Advanced Video Coding (AVC/H.264) profiles in DRM-compatible Windows Media files.

Through our partners, we offer a suite of browser-based media management tools for easy publishing of rich media to the Web, ad insertion, rights management, e-commerce, and detailed usage reports. Tracking your money is simple as well, with browser-based administration of credit card billing, processing, membership management, and end-user support.

Appliances for In-House or Managed Hosting

You can leverage our paid-media application programming interfaces (“APIs”) for the most flexibility in integrating digital rights management (“DRM”) with your existing site. Or, to save development time, we also offer ready-made plug-ins for both Windows and UNIX web servers such as IIS or Apache.

Locus 1U Server

Locus™ appliances optimize streaming and downloads

The Auragan Locus™ line of appliances helps your existing servers perform better by actively managing the traffic and content delivered from each server. Traditional load balancers balance traffic either at the network layer based on an indiscriminate amount of network traffic, or at the application layer based on application responsiveness. Our appliances take both of these into account, while also considering the specific media each server is best able to deliver. This approach optimizes each individual server not just at the network or application layers, but in the O/S itself, resulting in much higher performance.

Software for Media Delivery Networks

Auragan created software modules—or plug-ins—to fill in some of the pieces missing from “retail” media servers. Our most popular tool enables content owners to control which sites link to their content, with versions for Windows Media Server, IIS, Apache, and QuickTime. Other solutions provide content management, pay-per-minute, or DRM licensing. Each module is designed to help you earn more from your content.

Streaming & DRM Back-Office Applications

Many of our appliances or APIs interact with our streaming and digital rights management back office. The Advection.NET network operates clusters of web, database, and storage servers in redundant datacenters around the world, guaranteeing the highest availability and performance for your rich media distribution and delivery.
